Advanced Compound Ingredients
What is a compound ingredient?
A compound ingredient is an ingredient that contains other ingredients, for example, a BBQ sauce. Advance Compound Ingredients allow you to specify the weights of each compound, for example a sauce that you make in house and then use in other recipes.
If your compound ingredient is something that you buy straight from a supplier the likelihood is that you do not know the exact weights of the compounds. For this please see Basic Compound Ingredients.
Creating an Advanced Compound Ingredient is simple
- Follow the guide Creating New Products, and create your compound ingredient as if it where a product.
- Once you have created your product navigate to the "Info" tab of the product.
- Check the box "Sub Component?". This then enables the product to be used as an ingredient in other products.
- On the main products screen, products that are sub components are distinguished by an orange carrot icon next to the product name:

You can now use this newly created Compound Ingredient within your other products and recipes!
TIP: The product name will be the ingredient name (followed by the list of ingredients). If you are using this feature to save time duplicating recipes for products with different portion sizes, eg: "Family Size Lasagne", "Individual Lasagne, and "Kids Lasagne", you should make an initial product simply called "Lasagne" as a sub component and add this to the 3 other products in order to have nicer ingredients names.
